Ottawa must act on cancer-causing pollutants

If you and your family have escaped receiving bad news about cancer so far, chances are you know someone who has not been so lucky.

While doctors seldom know the precise causes of cancer, there is mounting evidence that exposure to some chemicals is a contributing cause. In 2005, facilities across Canada reported more than 7.6 million kilograms of cancer-causing substances released into air. Ontario facilities contributed 43 per cent of Canada's total, leading all provinces and territories.

The identification and regulation of hazardous chemicals is the most cost effective way to promote good health in Canada. This process should be given the highest priority.
